people blocking "all APNIC space"

There's recurring wisdom on other lists that people outside the Asia Pacific region routinely block "all APNIC space" in order to reduce the amount of spam they receive (the most recent example was on NANOG, when someone inferred that APNIC address space was useless because it is so regularly blocked). I've run MTAs numbered within 202/8 and 203/8 before, and I've never noticed a problem; if the practice of blocking all APNIC space was that commonplace, I would have expected to have noticed. Maybe I was just lucky, or maybe these block-happy ISPs don't include 202/8 and 203/8 in "all APNIC space". Anybody here noticed widespread blocking of any APNIC ranges by ISPs elsewhere in the world? Joe

In defence of the Xtra PR spokeswoman Anna, I have to say she is entirely new to the world of ICT and when I asked her about IP numbers/addresses she'd never heard the term before... I asked her about IPv6 more as a separate point ("... and what about plans to roll out IPv6?") rather than as a solution to the allocation issue... I guess it's not really on topic to have it in the story alongside the rest but she had so little to say on the matter (oddly) that there really wasn't enough for a separate story.

OT - Remote access

OT - Is anyone working on anything new for high-speed remote access, for areas that will never yet DSL or other cable services? Satellite with dialup is fine, but after 15 km of copper, having bypassed electric fence units, then factoring encapsulation, corporate VPN, and remote access client to said box, more gg's would be good. It's a question I get asked from time to time. Any suggestions would be good. Reply of list. Just recently came across another blocking of 210.0.0.0/8 with chat servers. While probably not considered by many to be a productive service :-) it does still show attitudes that say "APNIC ? forget it" and this attitude appears to be markedly prevalent amongst US based admins and now appears to be expanding to cover services other than e-mail. -- Steve. Did anybody else experience problems with Telstra IP Services this morning ( 00:30 to 02:00 and 06:50 to 7:50)?
