Caching peer-to-peer traffic: a done thing?

I'm updating my labnotes for my network management paper regarding the use of proxy caches, and previously I have pointed to the possibility of caching peer-to-peer traffic as shown in the paper Deconstructing the Kazaa Network http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?coll=GUIDE&dl=GUIDE&id=837393 I would like to know whether or not caching of peer-to-peer is something that ISPs actually do today, and if not why not. Afternoon all, WARNING: If you're not in the mood for a rant about sales departments then hit <DEL> now! :) I'm trying to do some forward planning (yes I know.... I shouldn't have even considered it!) I want to know what it will cost to get better upstream speed from my shop on Mairehau. (2mbit HFC is ok at present, but won't be soon) So I called TCL, FX and TNZ. How does one talk to someone that knows about something other than ADSL? TNZ get the prize for being the most amusing, I listened politely for some time to the woman telling me all the features of their new firewall product for SOHO, before explaining that it was a bit like a half ton ute and I was looking for a price for an 18 wheeler. That was after I'd been through 3 operators and 4 VMS systems. TCL was quicker to get me speaking to a person... but took me time to get him past the $34.95 + GST plan. Is VDSL2 @ 7mbit really all they have off those nodes in Chc? Aren't they fibre fed? And surly they wouldn't put a VDSL dslam in for 1 customer? I'm the only person pulling data off the node at present. (Some TV, but apparently either everyone's getting BB from Vodafone 3G or Telecom DSL, or they're just not getting data in Mairehau) FX, no VMS, YEAH! err.... all staff in sales meeting and have yet to hear back. /rant Cheers Don

Present harvest proposals with regard to robots/txt policy at a future date. . National Library of New Zealand and DNC to discuss request for the .nz zonefiles in future harvests and also consider an archive opt in clause as part of registration. . Discuss issue of the collector being added to blacklists with Internet Archive. . Consider the possibility of content providers sending their websites through for legal deposit in future. . With regard to the Internet Archive using 2 IP addresses (1) Honouring robots.txt(1) Not honouring robots.txt. Ask the NZNOG community whether they noticed significant differences in the behaviours between the two crawlers. Future Harvests Communications: . In future it is crucial that people are informed prior to any harvest. The discussion group include key people who will help to disseminate that message and are willing to inform their customers. .
