Charging for IPv6

Initially those transit providers and ISPs that do offer IPv6 transit will be able to charge for this service as it will be a premium value add. However I can't see this business model being able to last for more than 6 years (through to 2012), and possibly only three years. After this point in time I expect IPv6 deployment will be standard, and will no longer be a premium service offering - it will be the standard offering, like IPv4 is today. Once IPv4 has become exhausted and you can't actually give a customer an IPv4 address then you definitely wont be able to charge more for IPv6 - otherwise the customer will walk. So do providers start implementing slowly now, and recoup some of their investment while they can, or wait till they are forced to do the upgrades and are not able to recoup any of their "new" investment. Rhetorical question.

XTRA(yahoo) automatically tagging legitimate mail as Spam

Hi All, We are currently having an issue with one of our Exchange servers sending email to user mailboxes on Xtra. We have tracked the email leaving the server, and have EventID's from logs on the Exchange server telling us that delivery is successful. However, when we log into any of the Xtra mail accounts, we can see the emails are automatically being put into the Spam folder of those accounts. There is nothing about the emails to suggest they are spam, and the final received headers say nothing about Spam, let alone even that it has been checked for Spam. As far as I can see it is only affecting one of our domains. We have several other domains with exchange servers that deliver to Xtra mailboxes just fine. I have contacted support at Xtra about this, as well as Ted Grenfell (who got back to me straight away) and we're trying to collate enough data to attack the problem. Is anyone else having this issue? (It would be nice to know that we're not the only ones being picked on by Yahoo.) Cheers, Michael Hutchinson Manux Solutions Ltd

can someone tell me why .co.nz domains are the most expensive domains ? where as most are about $6 - $15 but .co.nz are $30 - 60 and even $100 thanks

'Registering' a DNS server

We've just set up a new DNS server for a client whose domain name is a .co.nz name, and we can't make it a primary or secondary for .com or .net names. In the (distant) past we've 'registered' name servers with Network Solutions, and then it's been all good. Now that the registries are with Verisign there seems to be no way to register anything other than a name server on a .com or .net name, and that has to be completed via the registrar (Tucows, Godaddy etc). I'm not sure whether I'm being particularly dense or if this is actually a difficult thing to do - can someone please let me know what the process is now for registering a .nz server to enable it to be a primary or secondary for .com or .net names. hi folks, many of you have already heard about it, but we want to remind folks of the 'day in the life of the Internet' 2008 experiment: we're coordinating dns (and possibly other types of) measurements from a single (2)day period in mid-march 2008. we will repeat our simultaneous root server collections from 2007, and try to expand our coverage to include other TLDs, and hopefully data from other levels of the hierarchy, e.g., caching resolver data. we'd also like to compare statistics from secured vs unsecured zones. we're hoping this experiment provides data to help answer questions operators care about, e.g., IPv6 adoption, DNSSEC adoption, pollution to root servers, use of unallocated addresses in the wild, reverse DNS deployment, <send us your questions> (working list at: http://www.caida.org/projects/ditl/questions/ ) OARC is providing special support for this project, and Duane is executing some practice runs with participations this week, to test measurement/transport logistics. DNS-based participation should not require much work, ideally running 'dnscap' on/near DNS server(s) and sending the pcap files to OARC: (public.oarci.net) but there are other methods of participation too, depending on your policy constraints. (indexing data into datacat and controlling distribution of the data through your own AUP, or submitting more "cooked" data, e.g., logfile summaries, RRD graphs, reports based on data collected internally by networks during the DITL dates. if you are interested in donating the time and energy and (some form of) data to this project, please let duane, kenjiro, or me know and we'll get you started.
