There are around 100 WIX 'peers' who have not set up a peering session
for a very long time and the IP address the foreign peer is supposed to
connect from is not responding to ping or arp requests.
We are putting these peers into an inactive state so that they don't
appear in the config of the route servers. Anyone who wants to reconnect
is free to contact us at tech(a)citylink.co.nz and we'll help you get
things sorted out.

With regards to

& http://www.comcom.govt.nz/customer-transfer-code , I'd like to know if
the law requires an ISP to notify the losing service provider (LSP) when
a churn of broadband is being done. While using wireline (Chorus
Wholesale) to initiate a transfer of broadband services, the LSP has to
be selected and the ASID for the broadband to be entered, when this data
has been validated and and RFS date is confirmed for when the DSL will
transfer, wireline creates a Notification which can be viewed through
the wireline portal. If providers are using the B2B system, these
notifications are available through the
directSupplyBillingCessationAdvice, "Direct Supply Notifcation" &
"Losing Service Provider Notification" which can be obtained by cronjob
right away which I see as a notification to the LSP.
My questions are
1./ Is the wireline notification enough to count on for the gaining
service provider
2./ Should the gaining service provider contact the other chorus
wholesaler and personally notify them too?
3./ If the provider is not directly with chorus, do we contact the
direct wholesaler as well as their wholesaler?
4./ If a notification isn't sent manually and we rely on the chorus
notification are we acting illegally?
5./ The documents mentioned above to they cover POTS and DSL services
or only POTS?
I guess the same could be asked for IPMS or porting of phone numbers.
My understanding is that IPMS is used for notifications to the LSP which
they have to approve so this should be enough for them to know that the
service is being migrated away from them?

Dear Colleague,
This is to notify you that one or more objects in which you are
designated for notification have been modified in the NZRR routing
registry database.
These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers
(http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded
in the near future. The reloading of the servers is staggered over a
period of time so that if you are peering with both servers at an
exchange, you can maintain at least one BGP session at all times and
consequently a full set of routes.

These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers
(http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded
in the near future. The reloading of the servers is staggered over a

Lonely Planet have named it one of New Zealand’s most exciting cities and the New Zealand Network Operators Group (NZNOG) is holding their annual conference and training workshops in the Garden City from January the 23rd to the 27th.
As there is more to life than sitting in conferences. The off the ball action will give you the chance to socialise, network and have fun.
We’ll be kicking off on Wednesday with drinks at the Copthorne Commodore, brought to you by Network Hardware Resale. So if you are finishing up workshops or tutorials, or arriving on the Wednesday join the rest of the group for some refreshments and a chin wag.
Thursday we have a field trip to the Allied Telesis labs to see first-hand router and switch research and development, one of New Zealand’s hidden secrets is we actually do a lot of this, we don’t just implement.
We will be accompanied by penguins and huskies for the conference dinner at the Antarctic Centre on the Thursday. There will be a good opportunity before the dinner to explore the centre.
Following the dinner there will be some after drinks courtesy of our platinum sponsor Vocus.

The conference proper will run across the 26th and 27th of January and as always will include leading speakers in the field of Internet operations from New Zealand and much farther afield. Training workshops and tutorials will precede the conference and run from the 23rd to the 25th of January.
The annual conference, workshops and tutorials are a once a year chance for individuals and organisations involved in Internet operations to meet and share the latest in Internet operations, technologies practises and receive high quality training. The event is unique in New Zealand and attracts technical, skilled individuals with a genuine interest in Internet operations and Internetworking technologies.
The event will be held at the Copthorne Commodore near Christchurch Airport. Accommodation is available on site as well as in the immediate area.
The cost of attendance has been confirmed at $250, students are $150.

It looks like around 8:20 this morning vodafone customers started hitting
my US rather than my NZ Web servers. I use GSLB to balance things so
since that time vodafone's DNS queries have appeared to be from "outside
NZ".
This is probably due to Telstra problems this morning.
I've done a little remote testing but it's all a little hard to confirm,
so if somebody at vodafone could either backout the change or pop me an
email to discuss it would probably speed up their customer access (at
least to my site, perhaps others).
I've done some testing against 203.109.129.67 & 68 and they seem to have
fixed themselves around 13:30 but I suspect thats not the whole story.
