FYI/A A Leap Second will be added to the world's clocks at 2016/12/31 23:59:59/60 UTC. Owing to the fortuitous operation of the rotating globe, this will happen at lunchtime NZ Time (noon or 13:00, depending on how NZ Summer Time works) on New Year's Day 2017, so will more likely affect our post-prandial nap than interrupt our New Year revels Details below sig block. Large increase in traffic

Hi We're seeing a large increase in inbound traffic levels today. Appears to be coming in both over peering links and internationally. Right now it appears to be Microsoft related. An AKL-IX graph shows it well - http://monitor.akl-ix.nz/cacti/graph.php?local_graph_id=14&rra_id=all Or the MS port: http://monitor.akl-ix.nz/cacti/graph.php?action=view&local_graph_id=137&rra… Does anyone else have more information to add as to what MS patches or similar are causing this? Huge increase in Spam traffic over the past few days - Domains registered with MelbourneIT?

Hi All, Wondering if anyone else has seen the same situation in their environments. Our MTAs are taking an absolute pounding (and as a result I'm not sleeping much!) from a bunch of hosts with PTRs for domains ending in 'eas.com' (ex 'leipai168eas.com', 'attractive7eas.com', 'theevermoreseas.com', 'bajasouleas.com'). All the domains seem to be registered through Melbourne IT to random gmail addresses (which themselves look spammy!) and using cloudns nameservers. There has also been a noted increase in traffic from other domains, but this one stood out to me as a pattern. We've got mitigations in play, but I'd still be interested to see if anyone else was experiencing any noise. Cheers, Cam

I think it's a great idea. Would be a good paper/lightning talk from someone at the next NZNOG conference. The key issue is a standard API that network operators could present to an aggregator location like http://www.nznog.org/noc-list and for it to include info that operators need to know and care about. If some sort of API spec was published then at least folks would know what to aim for. Jeez, even a set of twitter handles to aggregate would be a start. But then we'd rely on Timmeh not breaking shit. Anyone up for talking about that sort of stuff in February?
