InternetNZ and TVNZ7 are running an ICT Ministers Election Debate on Tuesday 23 September, for information see www.debate.net.nz There are remaining spaces available in the studio audience at Avalon. If you would like to be in the studio then let Richard Wood from InternetNZ (richard at internetnz.net.nz) know as soon as possible. If you are going to be at home (or at work) that evening then be sure to join in the streamed video and IRC chat accessible through the website. Participation will allow for the real-time firming up of questions to be put to the Ministers during this debate. ________________________________________________________________________ IPv6 Penetration Survey: Seeking global input ________________________________________________________________________ The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), in cooperation with the Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), is conducting a new survey to gather data regarding current and future use of IPv6. We have expanded the scope of the survey to seek IPv6 penetration data from around the world. We cordially invite and encourage all organizations in the AfriNIC, APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC, and RIPE NCC regions to participate in the survey so we can establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment. The survey will open on 8 September and remain available until 17:00 EDT on 1 October. The results of the survey will be presented and discussed at the ARIN XXII Public Policy and Members Meeting to be held in Los Angeles, CA, 15-17 October 2008. Additionally, the summary results will be shared with all the RIRs for further distribution within their respective regions. The survey data will support ongoing research. IP assignment to end users

Hi all, If you have customers connected to you and you are doing IP address assignment with IPCP (ie. over PPP), or with DHCP, can you please let me know how your network does it? I'm especially interested in whether you have local address pools on access routers, or if you have centrally managed address pools and then inject IPv4 /32 routes in to your IGP, or a combination of the two (ie. dynamic customers on local pools, static customers on RADIUSed addresses). Also please let me know if you have a single LNS/NAS, or multiple, if they exist in multiple cities, etc. We had some interesting discussion the other day in the Auckland IPv6 workshop, and I wanted to get some background info to feed recommendations I'm putting in to a public 'How to do IPv6 to ADSL/ etc. subscribers' document I'm thinking of doing, with a focus on the NZ last mile environment. World Exchange unreachable

Looks like xnet.co.nz is unreachable via IP (which includes their phones). Is there anybody nearby who can knock on the door and offer beer to turn their stuff back on? I am thinking NZNOG needs to incorporate, mount a challenge for .nz and use the income to fund an ISP that we call all own. IPv6 route servers at WIX

I'm in the process of automating the configuration of the IPv6 route servers at the WIX. Currently those who peer are only peering with one server, rs1-v6.wix.net.nz. I've added a second server, rs2-v6.wix.net.nz, and those who currently peer with the existing server have been added to the config of that. If you are an existing peer can you connect to the other server so that we can test our autobuilt config for it please. You can see a looking glass for that server at: http://nzix.net/cgi-bin/lg.cgi?protocol=IPv6&router=rs2-v6.wix.net.nz Once we've got this process refined we'll be happy to take more peers. (:-) We'll also roll out similar changes to the APE.

6to4 on the APE

As those of you who read the NZRR database notifications (or am I the only one?) will have noticed, we've updated filters with the intent to advertise the 6to4 prefix (192.88.99.0/24) on the APE shortly. This will put the closest 6to4 server for NZers on peering ISPs in Auckland, as opposed to Chicago (the current closest in all the tests I did, anyway). I'm sure many people will be interested in the level of traffic we receive, and the nature of that traffic, so I will be doing some analysis and will post details after it's been live a while. At this stage it looks like we will be announcing the prefix some time between now and Wednesday. Air New Zealand / ECN

Hi, I'm seeing TCP ECN issues on the final hop to www.airnewzealand.co.nz. If there's someone from Air NZ on this list, you might want to look into it. I can provide traceroute / testing information if required. As an aside, I thought the "some routers break packets with ECN enabled" bug went away ages ago. Is anyone else seeing ECN related brokenness, or is it now SOP to disable ECN and leave it off? Daniel
