IANA DNSSEC Testbed to be Decommissioned

Colleagues, ICANN has operated the IANA DNSSEC testbed, serving non-production, signed versions of the root, ARPA, IN-ADDR.ARPA, IP6.ARPA, IRIS.ARPA, URN.ARPA, and INT zones for several years. Following the recent completion of DNSSEC deployment in the root zone, this testbed is scheduled to be decommissioned. For more details on the IANA DNSSEC testbed, see <https://ns.iana.org/dnssec/>. For more details on DNSSEC deployment in the Root Zone, see <http://www.root-dnssec.org>. At the time that the service is decommissioned, the nameserver bound to NS.IANA.ORG (208.77.188.32, 2620:0:2d0:1::32) will be shut down and DNS queries to NS.IANA.ORG will fail with ICMP type 3 code 3 (Destination Unreachable, Port Unreachable). We suggest that anybody using the DNSSEC testbed for anything resembling production services make plans to stop doing so at their earliest convenience. The New Zealand Network Operators' Group The NZNOG mailing list exists to facilitate discussion among operators of networks in New Zealand on matters relevant to network operators as described in the list's Acceptable Use Policy. That policy appears later in this posting. The NZNOG Trust is registered as a charitable entity under the Charities Act. The trust exists to provide the legal framework needed to do jobs like operating the bank account which holds the money which allows our annual conferences to happen. Other than the four trustees, the NZNOG does not have a formal membership. Conference NZNOG holds New Zealand's only annual technical networking conference. NZNOG Mailing List Acceptable Use Policy The NZNOG mailing list exists to provide a forum for the exchange of technical information and the discussion of implementation issues that require cooperation among New Zealand network service providers. In order to continue to provide a useful forum for discussion of relevant technical issues, users of the list are asked to respect the following guidelines. 1. Discussion will focus on Internet operational and technical issues. 2. Discussion related to meetings of network service providers is appropriate. 3. Discussion unrelated to these topics is not appropriate. 4. Postings to multiple mailing lists are discouraged. 5. Postings that include foul language, character assassination, and lack of respect for other participants are unacceptable. 6. Blatant product or service marketing is unacceptable. 7. Postings of a political, philosophical or legal nature are discouraged. 8. Postings to the list should be in ASCII or MIME encoded as text/plain. Attachments should not be sent to the list. To present a document, a suitable URL may be referred to. For documents of general interest, the use of proprietary file formats is discouraged. 9. Breaches of list etiquette should be dealt with privately with the offending list user, and should not result in complaints being sent to the list. 10. A person repeatedly breaching list etiquette shall receive warnings from the list administrator. A further breach after the second such warning within thirty days shall result in the offender being unsubscribed from the list. Other action may also be taken to block postings to the list by the offender. Any such unsubscription is to be immediately announced to the list. Changes are not made to the archive on request, though the administrators remain happy to assist the Office of the Privacy Commissioner should any complaint be laid with that office. These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers (http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded in the near future. Dear Colleague, This is to notify you that one or more objects in which you are designated for notification have been modified in the NZRR routing registry database. These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers (http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded in the near future. The reloading of the servers is staggered over a period of time so that if you are peering with both servers at an exchange, you can maintain at least one BGP session at all times and consequently a full set of routes. Hi Nathan We're looking at it - its a branching unit off-shore of Sydney that was installed on the Pipe PPC-1 cable - its certainly an option for us. Means we would have to use the PPC-1 landing station in Sydney so investigating. SPF Mail rejection

How common is this scenario? It's such a pain in the ass and I'm getting sick of dealing with it..... OrgA emails OrgB. Email goes through MailHostingCompany's SMTP server. OrgB rejects OrgA email because SPF disallows HosterA's smtp server from sending email on behalf of OrgA. These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers (http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded in the near future. Inspired by the open nature of Patrick Gilmore's (Akamai) post and having been asked by more than a few people now if we can answer questions about the telecom/xtra DNS servers. I have been answering questions as they present themselves for a while now but I never formally said I would answer questions as they arose or openly invited questions about this. In the same vein as the Akamai thread if there is anything I can't talk about I will say so, however I will answer what I can honestly and openly. Toni will be discussing the Department's domestic enforcement activity and the challenges and responsibilities faced through the application of the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act in New Zealand. This will provide a good opportunity to meet some of the team and hear about what they doing to fight spam in New Zealand, and how they are doing it. Of particular interest will be a look into the Department's investigation into the Herbal King spamming organisation, who were involved in sending over two million emails to New Zealand addresses alone, between 5 September and 31 December 2007, earning sales commissions of more than $US2 million from this global operation. Spamhaus called this group the “Largest Spam Gang” in the world in 2007/2008. This investigation resulted in successful High Court action in Christchurch by the Department against Lance Atkinson, his brother Shane Atkinson and Roland Smits. Who paid over $NZ250,000 between the three of them. The United States Federal Trade Commission also fined them $USD 15.5 Million Dollars! Speaker Bio: Toni Demetriou is the team leader and senior investigator with the Anti Spam Compliance Unit. Toni spent fourteen years as a serving police officer with the West Midlands Police Service in the U.K. In 2003 he emigrated with his family to New Zealand and in 2004 Toni joined the Regulation and Compliance Branch at the Department of Internal Affairs. Still not having a SPF record properly specified should be 'One' check that should make folks suspicious yet not necessarly qualifying them as prolific spam originator. Just my 2 cents, FWIW.
