I'd be interested in hearing off-list from people who a) have been to at least one NZNOG conference in the past, and b) might be interested in hosting next year's conference. This is not about committing anybody to anything at this stage. It is a good time to start thinking about whether this is a way in which you could contribute to the community, whether as a single hosting organisation or in cooperation with others. next week's meeting network

The network for next week's meeting is up and running at Vic (thanks to all concerned in making that happen). Here are the layer-3 details for those who want to open firewall holes, etc before they arrive and realise they can't reach their routers: IPv4: 169.222.252.0/24 IPv6: 2001:4401:3::/64 The meeting network is attached to the WIX, and peering with a few people (including the WIX route servers). If anybody else would like to turn up direct peering (or donate transit), send mail to noc(a)nznog.org.

Congestion on Telecom bandwidth towards the Commonwealth Games streams

Hi Folks. Those of you who are using Telecom to get at the Commonwealth Games streams (rather than peering) may want to flush your DNS cache entries for "media6.tvnz.co.nz" (yes, we know the TTL's should have been wound down earlier, it got missed). If you do this, the RR DNS load balancing should kick in thus: before: $ host media6.tvnz.co.nz media6.tvnz.co.nz has address 202.7.7.65 after a cache clear, you should get: $ host media6.tvnz.co.nz media6.tvnz.co.nz has address 202.7.7.65 media6.tvnz.co.nz has address 202.7.7.57 Cheers Si

Notification of NZRR Database changes

Dear Colleague, This is to notify you that some object(s) in NZRR database which you either maintain or are listed as to-be-notified have been added, deleted or changed. These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers (http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded in the near future. Neil, The plan is that conference sessions be videoed. Whether they'll be streamed will depend on whether the necessary resources, human and otherwise, are available. As far as I know you still cannot purchase an ADSL connection without first purchasing a telephone line rental which costs $42.20 (Auckland cost according to the latest prices I received from Telecom). These costs when added together represent a minimum cost of $72.15 for broadband (under xtra's new plans) which is more than the $1.50 per day cost that Teresa referred to on the Campbell Live segment. Is this dual-charging common in the other OECD countries - especially those with LLU? -- Regan
