I also observe AusNOG, where there is a considerable amount of discussion (sometimes superfluous) and a great reporting system for network outages and so on. And now they have a page for the sale of surplus equipment. Along with some great direct recruitment stuff, that probably never makes the*popular press*.
Surely this is a measure of an active community of interest.
Activity levels on NZNOG have been somewhat muted in recent times.
Does this imply that everything is fine and dandy, and the pills are working quite well, thank you?
Alan I agree. I also think there are many forums now where people do speak. Geekzone is well used by many for general discussion. I agree that this list is quiet, it should be to a point, it's an operational list. In days gone by this style of list may have had more traffic while like minded individuals worked to foster the internet in New Zealand and around the world. Today I feel there are other tools and other places that are used to foster that growth in different ways. Geekzone, Whirlpool, GP forums, just to name a few. There are also other platforms such as Internet New Zealand which serve different parts of the community. I also agree with your suggestion about the blue pills.... the NZ net does work so there is little noise here. Today's biggest issue on the net... "Why didn't VF give TCL customers more value... blar blar blar...", really, that's a sign that things are working isn't it? I recall days when it was talk about why ISPx's BRAS was down, or X-Y email servers were off line... stuff that really happens much these days compared with days gone by. D
