Hi,
Last night I re-ran my promiscuous relay tests on the exact same list of NZ mail relays as I tested last time, in order to see whether there was any improvement.
The results, in the same meagre format as before, are:
Out of 3791 MX hosts that I tried to use as a relay:
January April
269 (7%) 319 (8%) accepted our message, but later bounced it 1208 (32%) 768 (20%) relayed our message
Of the messages that were relayed:
929 (76%) 573 (74%) were from hosts named under co.nz 33 (2%) 15 (1%) were from hosts named under net.nz 72 (5%) 52 (6%) were from hosts named under govt.nz 15 (1%) 14 (1%) were from hosts named under ac.nz 22 (1%) 18 (2%) were from hosts named under school.nz 0 (0%) 0 (0%) were from hosts named under iwi.nz 8 (0%) 6 (0%) were from hosts named under gen.nz 38 (3%) 21 (2%) were from hosts named under org.nz 1 (0%) 0 (0%) were from hosts named under mil.nz
So! This looks like an improvement.
About a third of the people you notified went and fixed their problem. The other two thirds probably haven't read their postmaster mail recently. :^( Any chance of giving percentages on a per 2LD basis (ie % of .co.nz's that are open, % of govt.nz, etc ??? Considering the number of .govt.nz domains, (guessing here), I think they feature prominently, and perhaps some education material needs to be sent to them all via the Government Sys Admin Association, Guild, or whatever?
