Last night I upgraded our name server (ns.cce.ac.nz) to the latest BIND. SInce then we've had intermittant problems receiving email. Now I've reverted to the previous version: still got problems.
I wonder if anyone can help.
Your problem is with ns1.clear.net.nz (not dns1.clear.net.nz), this server is caching an MX for cce.ac.nz that points to ns.cce.ac.nz instead of mailbox.cce.ac.nz. As this server is authoritative for (.nz) the cached record may get dished out to (and cached by) resolvers that are traversing a lookup via delegation records. Clearing the cache on dns1.clear.net.nz will only prevent the bad record from spreading further but the problem won't clear completely until the record times out (about 8.00 pm tonight).
