Just out of curiousity... Has anyone advocated IPv6 for its own sake, perhaps as a new and exciting technology development, rather than as technology that has been developed to resolve the problem of running out of IPv4 address space?
I think we all would, (except perhaps ATM-AJ) but as it's largely transparent to the end user, and doesn't really give them any tangible benefits right now, it's a hard sell to the bean counters.
Beyond that, does anyone really look at it as anything beyond a solution for v4 address shortages? It's never even been a consideration from anyone I've spoken to that v6 supports something "we need", except for larger addressing possibilities. I suspect the excitement in wheel reinventing may have allowed v6 to lose sight of doing something neat, like remaining compatible with v4, and allowing full adoption of ATM everywhere. aj. -- slightly tongue in cheek.
