Right well, I registered those domain names, and as far as I understand, that is the fuction of registrar. However I realise that doesn't immediatly make me a registrar (as exciting a title as that is). So what does?
Paying Domainz $300 (or $3000).
and signing a Registrar agreement.
Not true. The only thing the registrar agreement sets up is the mechanism to permit discounted pricing for bulk registrations. There is no conceivable way that Domainz could deny access to anyone who wanted legitimate access to a monopoly public register. As a previous Domainz Director, and current ISOCNZ councillor I think all should be aware that If you have any access difficulties, then there are mechanisms in place (via ISOCNZ if necessary) to ensure reasonable access for Individual Domain Name Holders. I personally have some difficulty with the contract, so if others think it is unreasonable, please speak up. On a practical note, the DRS system is in early stages of going live. I am aware of some initial, minor issues which are being worked on. If your DNS entry is responding correctly, and you were only interested in verifying minor details (which may not have an immediate operational impact) then perhaps it would be wise to hold off for a couple of days. Regardless of personal opinions about Domainz, this new DNS system has to work, as the Waikato system is not available in the future. Rgds Roger De Salis
