If you read the Slashdot discussion (and the website carefully) you'll see they are claiming they'll pay US$1.00 per hour of CPU time. Spam delivery is hardly CPU bound. A bunch of idiots will probably sign up thinking they're going to get thousands of dollars a year; even on the face of it they'll get hundreds at most. And I'd say it's better than even money they won't get anything -- rule #1: spammers lie. Given the number of zombie mail relays "administered" by people without the clue to manage a machine on the Internet I'm not sure that someone offering to pay for them is going to make a whole of difference to the volumes of spam.
