Surely any domain hosted by 2day would also be unresolvable as the delegation for those zones would be by nameserver name and as I remember it all of 2day's name servers are in the 2day.com namespace.
No, the COM zone still holds host records for ns[1-3].2day.com. Since these are no longer part of a delegated domain, the GTLD servers actually give authoritative responses for those records. Moral: if you want stuff to survive in COM/NET through this kind of disaster, register <domain>.COM and WWW.<domain>.COM as your name servers and they'll stay current as long as your registrar maintains your host records. This trick won't work in NZ, where once a domain is dead, it stays dead and doesn't leave zombie glue records walking the earth... -- don
