I suspect the apple issues they are having is less likely to be a cable cut, more likely to be they didnt have enough peering to apple because they dont like peering.
I know apple recently stood up 16 x 100g peering ports around the world recently which included Equinix Sydney, and they told me they are putting 100g on megaport IX Sydney this week or next.

We noticed with IOS 9 that we were doing nearly a gig of traffic more to apple for about a week from iOS9 release, then theyve had some minor updates since and new OS X release

SG and Perth; which is typically by about 10-30ms the fastest route from Sydney to SG (much more for southern and western AU cities).

Expect it to be down for a long time due to the challenges of dealing with the Indonesian government. Typically 8-12 weeks. SMW3 breaks are an annual thing.

Due to the high per mbit cost of SMW3 and its location, I dont think that Akamai would have been pushing all that much over it particularly without a diverse path.

Hi NZNOG,

Not sure if this qualifies as operational, but Telstra tweeted theres a cable cut somewhere:

Would anyone happen to know which cable it is and where its been cut - if thats the case?

Am told its causing slowdowns with Akamai, making Apple users unhappy.

Thanks
