I have had pretty good success with a tool called SPLAT. It's designed for FM/AM type stuff, so the coverage maps are not that high resolution, but it's LOS plots are pretty good. It's a command line tool, so you could use it as part of some scripts, etc. It can output Google Earth shape/path stuff as well, so you can see a LOS in all it's 3D glory without leaving your chair. As with many other tools, it uses NASA STRM data. On 4/07/2009, at 9:42 PM, Bill Walker wrote:
RadioMobile Deluxe, I use it too:

One tip, download all the nasa data for the areas you want before you start.

Hi Barry,
I suggest contacting Justin Wells at thepacific.net (justin(a)tpnet.co.nz ). With detailed antenna specs, GPS co-ordinates and elevation information he creates topographic maps with overlaid propagation information for all tpn's AP's which are quite accurate. I think he uses a program called RadioMobile (Don't quote me on that).

I know this may be a little off topic, however I know there are many wireless operators on list. I'm wondering what you use to track wireless signal from a base station to see what the footprint is.
I.e. I would like to drive around down all the streets where this hotspot is located to plot a map of what signal strength is like in this location for a specific AP, I will circle the streets around the AP until I've lost all signal and hope to have some sort of map to work with :)
Any help offlist would be appreciated.
Thanks Barry Murphy
