Disclaimer: I didn't believe this for a minute - but it is a funny story and does ilustrate the misconceptions regarding this matter. At a previous job in NZ where I was network manager, we were having a piece of hardware vandalised This was situated in a public area and we suspected that it was infact staff members vandlising it. A webcam was stationed on top of this unit in plain sight so as to deter people from doing anything to it. The webcam was not actually connected to anything but thats not the point. We were informed by management to remove said camera because it clearly was in breach of the Privacy Act and violated the privacy of the staff who worked around this area. =) Somehow the Security cameras in the lobby weren't doing this however. Sometimes the act gets used as a hammer where it's just not needed =) Dean On Thu, Jan 03, 2002 at 09:11:10PM +1300, Craig Whitmore wrote:

I suppose the NZ Perversity Commissioner would object...
At the moment, as far as I know, there are no real laws about "live internet broadcasts" in NZ. But something is being worked on, but I can't find out what exactly :-(
Does anyone know what they _are_ trying to bring in?
A Real time Live Internet broadcast doesn't come under the Films and Publications Act, nor the Broadcasting Act (as I don't think they ever thought about the Internet as being a real time broadcast medium).
But Static Pictures/Web Pages etc (gif/jpg/html/whatever) do come under the F&P Act.
