I would like an explanation as to why Clear ( It looks like it was just fixed ) was advertising international routes in Waikato -
This resulted from an incorrect BGP community list on our router at NZIX - controlling redistribution from our internal routing table. For some (as yet unexplained) reason this uncovered itself at around 6pm yesterday during OSPF-related problem resolution for a customer. I say unexplained because it would appear that the problem has potentially existed for some months but has not manifested itself until now.
This caused a major outage on my network due to the routing tables filling up the available memory on some of my smaller routers.
When did you first notice this, Tony? Were you able to contact anyone at CLEAR for assistance? As a last resort the APNIC or RADB entries should have some good phone numbers. This highlights the inability to sensibly filter mistakes from OSPF at NZIX. How many devices at NZIX are ready/willing to speak BGP and drop OSPF altogether? -Jamie --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
