I would have to agree with this... When dealing with zone files, and their modifications, I have found 2day.com (a direct competitor to our business) to be much swifter in response and more co-operative than IHUG albeit they are also a direct competitor - but at least in the time of internetworking we really need to be able to have a bit of the "inter" part working to keep the whole "network" running...and I've found 2day to be very helpful in that regard. p.s. Dont ring the IHUG operator and ask for NOC. I got put through to somebody who had never heard of 2day.com
The guy on duty can't be expected to have heard of every little ISP in the country, especially those that we don't exchange money with or peer with.
Given the size of the New Zealand market and the fact that we manage more zones than IHUG, not to mention our visibility in the market, I think this is a little rich.
and was more interested in finding out how I managed to get connected to the NOC from the outside world.
People are NOT supposed to be put through to the NOC without announcing them and without at least trying to work out what their problem is first.
I am not people. I am not even a poor IHUG customer. I am a fellow ISP expecting a little cooperation and respect. My motive was to get a mutual customer back on the air.
People can ring our NOC number in emergancies (ie our filters have gone bad and a full routing table is melting your router) but I think the duty NOC guy thought you were some customer who had bluffed his way through the helpdesk.
He may well have, but I made myself very clear about who I was. There is a world beyond IHUG. Suggest you lot open your eyes. Not everybody is the enemy in your war.
