And just as McCullum got a triple century, I’ll do a hat trick of posts just to make sure I have not overly simplified things. Feel free to e-mail directly with questions as a couple of people have.

If a name is registered in more than one second level it is considered conflicted. If no agreement can be reached amongst the affected registrants as to who gets the second level name, then no one gets it.  The idea is that you can’t lose It against you will There is no greater right for co.nz registrants over other 2LDs because we believe it all 2LDs should be treated as equal. But 90% of names are not conflicted and those resgitrants can use the preferential registration period to register or reserve their name if they choose to do so.

Sorry for replying to my own e-mail, but just to clarify that the policy proposal is you have six months to say you want the .nz name registered or reserved. After six months if you have not done so, then the name can become generally available. Also this only applies for names registered before the policy proposal was announced.

You are correct that no one will lose their co.nz name and if you have a co.nz name, under the proposed policy no one can get the equivalent .nz name without your permission.

I just noticed this today..

http://finch.am/scratch/dnc_discontent.png (This is what the advert looks like)

It was an adwords advert I presume targeted towards NZers. Which links to..

http://dnc.org.nz/2ld-policy-amendments?gclid=CIzyxuPd1rwCFcEnpQodmFUAOQ

Does anyone know who is paying for these adverts .

As far as I know the new 2LD domain policy won’t result in people loosing their .co.nz domain names. (Is this “false” advertising?)

Thanks
