Peter Whilst I was a bit suprised myself especially when it said the software was developed in Iceland, I thought maybe it was a joke. However in my opinion I find your email to domainz what I "personally" consider a little outside the spirit of these mailing lists. Why not direct your concerns to the author of the mail, not all of us on the list! Thanks Warwick -----Original Message----- From: Peter Mott [mailto:peter(a)2day.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 01, 1999 12:13 AM To: isocnz-l(a)isocnz.org.nz Cc: nznog(a)list.waikato.ac.nz Subject: .nz zone only in fair condition! Looks like many of us received an unsolicited commercial email from DOMAINZ promoting a little Windows based tool that checks the health of your zone. I downloaded and ran it against .nz and here is what it told me:- THE ZONE IS IN A FAIR CONDITION You should be aware of these issues: * The delegation information for the zone is incorrect. The name server "dns1.clear.net.nz." is only listed in delegation data The name server "dns2.clear.net.nz." is only listed in delegation data The name server "ns1.clear.net.nz." is not listed in delegation data The name server "ns2.clear.net.nz." is not listed in delegation data The name server "ns1.waikato.ac.nz." is not listed in delegation data A dot is possibly missing in the host name "ns2.clear.net.nz.nz." A dot is possibly missing in the host name "ns1.clear.net.nz.nz." The A record "ns1.clear.net.nz." is duplicated The A record "ns2.clear.net.nz." is duplicated The A record "ns99.waikato.ac.nz." is duplicated The A record "rata.vuw.ac.nz." is duplicated The A record "gorgon.xtra.co.nz." is duplicated OK, so playing with toys aside, did anybody note the dispensation given to DOMAINZ by ISCONZ that allows it to use the .nz technical contact data to promote a commercial product? ISOCNZ WHOIS POLICY FORBIDS "Using any information contained in the WHOIS query output to attempt a targeted contact campaign with any person, or any organisation, using any medium." The policy clearly needs to state, except DOMAINZ, who may send not just a short message with a link to a web site to all and sundry, but yes a full page of hype for your enjoyment. We have a number of DNS products we promote to our New Zealand customers, but we dont use UCE to do it, nor do we use the WHOIS contact data as a source for sales promotions. Shame on Domainz! regards Peter Mott Chief Enthusiast 2Day.com -/- --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
