Hi Skeeve, all, Yes, there are a number of NZ, Aus and Pacific Islands representatives here for the global IGF in Kenya, and there are remote hubs in Wellington and many Pacific Islands also participating in discussions. The issues raised in Keiren's article are live, but longstanding issues from the "usual suspects" countries, and most of this activity has been quite obvious over the past 10 years. I am not sure if the NOG lists are an appropriate place for discussion on the IGF and its politics, as its hardly operationally related, but perhaps the growing interest in IGF activities could stimulate the establishment of an email list for this topic for the Oceania region? Hey all,
A pretty important meeting is happening at the IGF (Internet Governance Forum) at the moment with a fight about how the internet itself is managed.
The article below gives a good overview of the situation.

The worrying thing is the size and power of some of the countries who want to do things differently than our present multi-stakeholder approach.
As the writer quotes "Nothing less than the fate of the future evolution of the Internet is at stake". It sounds dramatic, but if certain powers get their way, it could be close to the truth.
There are numerous people from our community going to be attending the event in Africa and no doubt will report back to us with what is happening.
