That's my feeling, the Govt has (should have) an interest in ensuring a new AUS->NZ cable with sufficient diversity. This must happen at some point (provided the threat to SCC is real, which I suspect it is). But take that level of support from the Govt, if you're providing the necessaries to get over the hurdles of that it may be possible for someone like Kordia or Pacific Fibre (or both) to make up the difference. That's certainly the story I've been selling. Now an NZ to AUS cable might not work on economic grounds but technically we could pick up transit in AUS.
