Most of the Sat gear is well protected from Lightning. Infact all the equipment up there will be well protected. Its cheaper to replace an arrester than $100,000 worth of hardware :) . I have seen LMR900 Bend into a ball of melted copper with a non direct hit. Blew the N-Connector 2 cm into a concrete wall!. I have some good Docs on lightning protection for WLAN equipment . Theory applies to any RF equipment .

Last night I saw 6 lightning strikes on the tower (including a REALLY big one) over about 30 minutes, but I haven't heard of anything being fried. And there don't seem to be any photos.
Anyone know of any damage this time or have any photographic evidence of the strikes?
(This is my not-quite-so-off-topic way of saying "anyone seen any photos or heard of anything melting?")

Here's hoping that the WLAN gear I have in the spare room is safe enough =) I'm waiting for Richard Naylor to come out with the $3.50 cheapie lightning arrester =) Dean On Thu, Nov 01, 2001 at 10:56:26AM +1300, Matthew G Brown wrote: - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
