It would not surprise me if this wasn't a proxy for a political goal. The Bush folks want to rule the Internet. They have said it out loud and with no ambiguity. For a group of network operators, that may be political - but it ia FAR from irrelevant. A firm consensus and a will to maintain an international Net commons will be required - and money will need to go where hearts and minds dictate....to build an open alternative if required.
