I don't remember being "taken out" when I was at CLEAR, nor later when I was doing some work for Telstra Saturn, although I remember reading reports of "New Zealand's international internet circuits" being "taken down". "Pretty much all the country" is an IDGism for "Telecom and customers", I always thought.
