You'll have to wait for one of the "Sender ID" schemes being promoted currently to become a standard before there is any way to reliably check the legitimacy of envelope addresses.
More and more people in NZ (and around the world) have valid SPF records now including VodafoneNZ, IRD, Manakau Polytech, + many more. We have SPF and SRS implemented on our email servers and yes it does work. For example it picked up around 10000 messages yesterday which "came from the wrong place". Yes a very small percentage.. but only a small pentage of people have SPF records. More the better.. A good link for information: http://spf.pobox.com/forsysadmins.html Thanks Craig Orcon
