This is exactly what I am seeing also. I think this is affecting so many folks now that it's about time Ted or someone else from Xtra explained what's going on.
Since 0630 this morning my MTA has logged 142 failed connection attempts similar to this: Dec 9 12:44:00 maverick qmail: 1165621440.510720 delivery 6790: deferral: Connected_to_210.54.141.1_but_connection_died._(#4.4.2)/ In comparison, I have logged 18 successful deliveries. By my calculations that means that Xtra are deferring more than 85% of inbound mail connections. However, to their credit, their "MOTD" such as it is @ http://xtra.co.nz/help was updated very shortly after James's post - so at least theyre acknowledging the issue. That said, walking back through my logs over the last week, that error has been popping up very often.... I walked back through my mail logs and the first occurrance was around 0210hrs on November 27th. Two weeks?
