My feeling is, any attack is a bad attack. No matter what degree of redundancy you try to achieve, no matter how many peripheral links the server may have, if it is unwanted by the lusers, they'll attack it. And they're sneaky. And they're persistent. And, they tend to have access to a lot of potatos/second.
You have a valid point, but if one can prove that the attacks are pointless, they will cease. I'm really not sure why these kiddies are attacking the service, too. Presumably if they didn't USE the undernet irc system, they wouldn't care enough to try to kill it. And if they kill it .. it's gone. There doesn't seem to be a political motive behind these attacks, it looks like just random dickheadness. Bizarre.
It would seem that labelling it with a neon "Someone Elses Problem" sticker is the best outcome - I for one would be unhappy having too much to do with providing any network space for such a device.
yeah, but it everyone does that, it's dead. Whereas if everyone helps to resolve it, it gets resolved. :) Or am I just being a bright-eyed bushy-tailed hippie?
