Hi all,
I have heard some discussion in the recentpast (year or two) about the potential for IPv4 number space being sold off as it becomes less freely available. The following appears to be a real offer, and I checked with David and he seems to be a real person and was OK for me to post this to the list, so here it is.
I've not seen this before, but possibly that's because I'm less well travelled than others on the list. Is this becoming common place? And what's the 'street price' of an IP address at present?
Discuss.
So is it an asset or a liability? At what point is it cheaper to use IPv6 than continue with the old addressing scheme? Note that if you haven't already asked for your final allocation of IPv4 and you're an APNIC member (or are willing to join) you can get a /22 of IPv4 and a /32 of IPv6. The current assessment is that this IPv4 option will be available for up to 10 years.
