Hi Folks, Following email came to the WellyLUG list and I though the situation might be of interest to the NOG community. Given that Telecom is *the* provider of DSL, and bitstream is *the* unbundled option, issues in switching over customers should be paid close attention to! The customer affected now believes the issue to be related to a profile not being set to the right authentication server. Is anyone else out there successfully using unbundled DSL? How can we find out how many Bitstream customers there are? I think I'm hooked up with Bitstream at home now... I'm not 100% sure, and if you've been waiting for over a month like I have, you'd be sceptical too. My internet connection was severed at about 15:30 on Tuesday, and my ADSL router would only synchronise, but was unable to send ATM packets. This changed when I came home last night, and now I'm able to send ATM packets, yet I'm not able to access anything but orcon servers. Below is an email I've sent to orcon, but their helpdesk is insanely understaffed at the moment. The email has been edited to protect the innocent. If anyone can let me know what the problem might be? I have a feeling my account isnt set up properly on the gateway server, and wont let me access anything further. If I try a traceroute to google, it gets as far as the gateway, and then no further. I havent heard back about this. Well, this afternoon I find that I am now able to properly connect my ADSL router to the ISP and my routers diagnostic tests all come back as a pass. I assume that I have been moved to Bitstream, since I now connect at a lower rate than before (320 now, versus 2000 yesterday). However, I cannot access anything outside of Orcon, such as google.com. Pinging google reveals that it is unreachable. So is anything else, other than 219.88.240-246.XXX and I can also ping 210.55.12.1 and 210.55.12.2 which I'm using as DNS servers. The gateway that I'm using (was assigned by DHCP) is 219.88.242.171 I am able to use email, since smtp.orcon.net.nz is 219.88.242.10. If I try to ping www.orcon.net.nz I get the following:
From www.orcon.net.nz (219.88.241.90) icmp_seq=1 Dest Unreachable, Bad Code: 10
