Stop the press! The MX record for all domain names that ihug host (except for smtp dequeing) should be zuul.ihug.co.nz. There is no intention to change this. smtp.ihug.co.nz is for outgoing mail only (for our dialup customer). Changing domain names to point to this as an MX record would be really bad, as that would create relaying denied error messages if the mail did not originate from the ihug network, and would cause the mail to be undelivered in any case (as it would never reach our incoming mail servers, aka zuul.ihug.co.nz) If someone is hosting a domain name with mail.es.co.nz as the MX record, please email me, and I will discuss this with you. If you are hosting a domain name with zuul.ihug.co.nz as the MX record, DO NOT CHANGE IT. If anyone has any other queries regarding domain names hosted with ihug, or about MX records that point to ihug servers, please email me. If in doubt, email me :) -- -- ihug dns administrator On Fri, 3 Nov 2000, Peter Mott wrote:
Just a heads up to anybody providing name service for zones that has MX resource records pointing at either of mail.es.co.nz or zuul.ihug.co.nz
The first no longer accepts smtp mail, and the second is due to be removed soon. A NOC person at IHUG advises mailers outside their network should deliver messages to smtp.ihug.co.nz
Apparently all zone soas should be reading the IHUG MOTD to stay up with these changes
<sheesh>
p.s. Dont ring the IHUG operator and ask for NOC. I got put through to somebody who had never heard of 2day.com and was more interested in finding out how I managed to get connected to the NOC from the outside world.
