FOURTH UPDATE – OUTAGE ON TELECOM NETWORK

Full Telecom service has been restored following the repair of two fibre outages today.

The fibre outages that caused disruptions to services including mobile, Internet and other data services including EFT-POS were restored at 3.18pm.

Telecom regrets the inconvenience to customers caused by the disruption that began at 10.48am today.

The outage was caused by an unfortunate coincidence of damage to the network in two places.

In the first, there was physical damage to fibre on a bridge in the Rimutaka area. Services through that fibre were able to be routed through different parts of the network until the second incident occurred in south Taranaki where a post-hole digger damaged a fibre late this morning.

Patches are now in place at both sites, although there will be continuing work to make permanent repairs to the affected fibre.
