Hi Ben, Right at the moment NZ has quite a low unemployment rate in most industries, including IT. A number of companies that I'm aware of are looking for staff and there are not that many people looking for job. So it is quite a good time to be looking for IT work in general (In fact we're looking for an entry-level/tier 1 network person at the moment, anyone interested get in touch). This also means of course IT pay rates are beginning to rise in order to try and attract staff. Both Wellington and Auckland have a number of IT jobs in general also Christchurch has quite a few. A lot of IT jobs are not advertised in NZ (1/2 - 2/3 according some of the recruitment agents), but of the ones that are more of them are listed on: http://it.jobstuff.co.nz/ http://www.nzherald.co.nz/ Those may give you an idea of the types of jobs going. The Herald tends to cover Auckland jobs, Stuff tends to cover Wellington and the rest of the country. Keep in mind when looking at pay rates, if you convert the pay to pounds in won't look that great but the costs of living are lower in NZ too. Ive previously worked fora large ISP here in the UK as a systems/network engineer and would prefer to get a job in the same sort of role over in NZ. Any tips, pointers etc gratefully appreciated. Whats the best area of the country for work? (im thinking Auckland or Wellington) Anything in the Gisborne region? (Ive got family there) Whats the pay like over there for sys/net eng positions?
