On this note, does anyone have recommendations on an affordable GPS clock source ?
If you are up for a little soldering and heat shrinking at the extreme cheap end you can get a Garmin 18 LVC and plug it into an existing Linux or BSD box. For a little more cash and a similar quantity of hardware and software hackery you can get an Adafruit ultimate GPS breakout board, the corresponding antenna and a Raspberry pi. Both require a bit of messing with open source software in the usual drawn out way such things go, so these might not cost justify for work purposes. Both of these options have been working well where I have them setup. I have one of the Garmin 18 LVC setups in the pool.ntp.org pool (202.21.137.1 and 2001:4428:0:13::10). I can't vouch for the precision of the time you get, but these look like a very cheap solder free option: http://www.netburnerstore.com/product_p/pk70ex-ntp.htm Cheers, -- Lincoln Reid
