http://www.msl.irl.cri.nz/services/time-and-frequency/ntp-server-information This is a caesium clock, so a good match to deal with possible common-mode failure of the GPS-synchronised ntp.net.nz servers. -- don On 02/05/13 14:38, Ewen McNeill wrote:

This, incidentally, is why there should be a fourth - so that if during this outage ntp1 or ntp2 get bad time, it doesn't break things for everyone, as the bad ticker will be able to be voted out.
Hopefully no one is actually using ntp{1,2,3}.ntp.net.nz, a best-efforts service with other single points of failure (eg, same hardware vendor/model and presumably software revision; same admins; ...), as their sole source of time.
If nothing else including a few other separately run sources of time seems sensible as a sanity check, even if they're not quite as fractions-of-a-millisecond accurate.
