Hi Geoff / NZNOG My observation is that the operators with large Fixed Broadband market share in New Zealand see the "Big Streamers" as the reason why their customers subscribe to broadband , to the degree that they promote their broadband products with free subscription to popular content providers or a local version. I'm not sure if all operators share this sentiment though. The other observations is this dare I say ... But I also read somewhere that NZ in well underway with Gbps consumer services and there seems to be no such problems from the carriers in NZ.
