I just can't see how some companies can charge NZ $80-$100 a year
Perhaps they offer a lot of value added services? Perhaps they're just really well-marketed and advertised and have a lot of mindshare? Perhaps they have a captive uneducated market to sell into? There's all sorts of reasons why a company that sells expensive versions of things or services can exist in the same market as a cheaper version. For most people, a domain name (or two or three) is a no-big-deal one-off purchase and annual renewal. Doesn't really matter if it's $30 or $80. If your company is impacted by a $50 difference in a one-off cost then you have problems above and beyond worrying about the price of crappybusinessplan.co.nz (Note: I'm not suggesting that anyone reading this actually HAS a shitty business plan, regardless of their attitude towards NZ domain name pricing, IPoBigReflectors, domestic peering, or anything else. Please don't sue me. I'm just sayin' is all.) JSR
