Google likely had plans to drive around the streets to map wireless connectivity as a survey, and probably thought ‘stuff it, lets take pictures while we’re at it’.
The wifi based location thing that integrates in to many google related things (google maps on iphone comes to mind) is: 1) provided by a third party (skyhook) 2) mapped by planes flying overhead Making this slightly operational, we use WiSpy units to provide the pristine wifi coverage that Skeeve enjoys at the NZNOG conference. -- Nathan Ward
