Hi Tristram,
There is no standard nor guidance, as a DFAS carries no guarantee of
distance or optical loss.
(Nor should it, otherwise I'd have some people asking me to break the laws
of physics to get their 20 km over 2dBm loss.)
LI was required as per the original TICA 2004 - long predating CFH.
I (unofficially) recommend that everyone build in *at least* 4dBm headroom
into links, not just for LI - we've seen optics degrade over time, circuits
moved & respliced for faults, migrations/grooming of services, equipment
room "reorganisations", etc.
Thanks,
Jed.

Hi All.
Does anyone here know what the LFC’s are doing for LI on dark fibre? I think most will be some kind of splitter but one LFC is talking about using a 50/50 split introducing 3db of loss into each leg and I’d like to get an idea of what the others are doing. Normally I’d look at the CFH tech specs but LI on DFAS came after them and there’s no reference in the agreements
Cheers J
