From what I have read I currently think that what WAND is doing is unacceptable with out informed concent from anyone involved in the research.
In that case, traffic surveys where someone sits at the side of the road with a clipboard are also unacceptable without informed consent from every driver that passes by. As long as traffic is anonymised, or only analysed statistically, there's definitely no ethical problem. Brian
