Just had this request.
Initial urgency is satellite phones and Vsat equipment. I do not have
specifics for what VSAT equip we need yet. *If anyone has a pack of
satellite phones ready please let me know where it is and how fast you can
get them here.* Please engage and send anything you have which is close by
(aus nz priority for speed of delivery). We will need these to be live,
with spares, chargers etc.
Initial mail to dean(a)nsrc.org or asjl(a)nsrc.org if you can help

Hi All,
We've had some feedback from the Vanuatu Government that they are still looking into how they would like to co-ordinate offers for aid. In the mean time we're pulling together an Ushahidi instance temporarily at:
http://vanuatu.flatnet.gen.nz/ To record requests and offers for help.
I've got a couple of .vu domains in the wings, but there still seems to be some stability issues with them.
As you can appreciate it might take people a few days for tech related requests to become the top of people's minds. In the meantime we'll update the site as we hear things.
Regards, Dean
Hi All,
This morning I spoke with a friend from Vanuatu Government and to another who is CTO for Telsat Pacific, the largest TV operator & #2 ISP.
Things are in pretty poor shape, but on the bright side:
- Both cellular networks are fine in Port Vila - Internet and email from Telecom Vanuatu is working in Port Vila
This makes life a lot easier for coordinating support - which will be needed:
- Communication to remote islands is gone. It was all C-band satellite and those big dishes did not fare well. - Telsat lost four towers (that they know about) including their primary transmission site - though they expect to have some connectivity restored today or tomorrow.
Vanuatu Government is going to nominate a central point of contact for offers of assistance relating to ICT. When that information is available and when they are ready for contact from you it will be posted here.
Thanks to those who have already offered hardware and engineering resources - those offers have probably made the days of a few people in Vanuatu today.
Thanks,
Jon
P.S. I'm in the wrong timezone for this (GMT -1) so it may not be me
