The Slack channel is not as accessbile for the community as the mailing list, nor was it intended to replace the list (as I understand).

Thats correct, and is noted in the Slack Code of Conduct.

I would strongly encourage people to post things here which they want to be widely disseminated. Updates about peering, requests for help with something, etc.

Slack is great for discussion and real time problem solving, and is a good resource for sharing things which are not intended to be public. There has been a lot more of that in our little community the last year or so, I think its worked very well for fostering discussion a bit more.
Its not great for broadcast, and were on the free one so its terrible for history. The mailing list is great for both those things.

Ill make an effort to remind people to post here if there is stuff which should be more widely shared. There hasnt been that much of that in the last few years to be honest, even before the Slack thing came along.. but if there is, this list is the best place for it still.

This morning Ive had a few people mail me privately trying to get invited - I would encourage you to get someone who knows you to nominate you first, using the nominate function described in the code of conduct. Its important we have a bit of a web of trust going.
If you are unable to do that, please mail info@nznog.org and give us as much as possible about who you are and who you work for and so on.
Please make sure you read the CoC before asking: http://www.nznog.org/slack/slack-code-of-conduct
