I'd support this.

NZNOG is not your ISP helpdesk. Nor is it the Helpdesk of the third-party ISP you're having issues with. And it's not a phone directory.

It really would be nice to be able to assume that the obvious vectors have been tried first. All too often, that doesn't appear to be the case.

I often feel that if you're actually a member of the NZNOG target audience, you should know better than to use the scattergun approach before the obvious, reasonable alternatives have been tried and eliminated.
Clearly a broadcast to NZNOG should be an option.  But it should be pretty much the last option tried; give established processes and obvious contact lists such as the NOC list a shot first.

Mark.

I've been contemplating a post like this for a while.

Does it seem logical that we change our AUP to be something like:

'Please contact me off-list' posts will only be tolerated if you have tried the 'normal means' before doing so.

Normal means would be:

-Phoning the company and asking to talk to someone about your issue. This does often work.
-Contacting the appropriate people using the noc-list contacts on the NZNOG website
-Emailing the appropriate address (i.e. noc@ or postmaster@)

I'm just getting a bit of sick of NZNOG being used largely as a 'can someone from xyz please contact me off-list' list.

</rant>

And I don't mean to just pick on this thread. It's just been happening a lot lately it seems.

Cheers
Dave
