Multicast is something practical that you Network Operators can bring to
the
New Zealand... Its a disgrace that it is not widely available by now so please lets show some Kiwi initiative and makeit a reality not just a meeting of words.
IHUG/ATTICA + ORCON are multicast enabled at the moment, and we (Orcon) and IHUG (as far as I know), can enable per user Multicast access per user easily enough for Dial up Access.
From 1998 onwards I have had multicast working from time to time on
Xtra's
dial in network, this required radius permission's to be set for each user requiring this facility... I also watched it working in trial on Redback Adsl Gear in early 2000 without problems... So this is do-able...and until it widely publically available we do not have a fully working Internet1 in New Zealand...
Knowing what radius responses back/ Telecom allowing them to turn on Multicast on Jetstream/Jetstart customers would be great. Until its able to be turned on via a broadband connection via Telcom's Network, its not very impressive as most things on Multicast are higher than Dial Up Modem Streams.
