On this subject, I believe many of you should be aware that ICONZ, KC, Iprolink and Sinesurf had mutual peering in Auckland running for quite some time. We recently abandoned this arrangement due to lack of interest from everyone else, this was very disappointing. We are obviously interested in the whole mutual peering subject but as the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. After having once abandoned peering due to lack of interest, I would have to see firm commitments from the big players before becoming actively involved in this again.
I've already been talking to Joe about this, but consider this a public statement, for the record. IHUG is now interested in full peering with local Auckland ISP's. Untilk recently all peering proposals from the engineering department were met with Pointy-Haired-Ness from Higher Sources, but those blocks are now removed. As all of you know, we already have equipment and space up in the sky tower, and our R&D people are working with spread-spectrum point-to-point gear currently. These two things tend to indicate at least one peering arrangement that would be quite cost-effective. :) JSR IHUG Engineering Manager --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog
