Yes, tried that. Remote speedtest locations give similar poor results 200-300kbps, while consumer gives ~1Mbps measured at the same time of day. I'd be interested to know where the consumer test is run from, it uses Ookla as do many of the other test sites and I don't know if Ookla hosts the tests or provides an app to be used by the test provider.
<friday rant> Yes they host the files at the provider, however that aside, I'm not too concerned about DSL or satalite connections, I'm talking about a server sitting in their data center connected over ethernet, so nothing between (satalites, dslams, switches) that could be causing the bottleneck. Through these residential mediums one would pay around $1 a GB, we however pay about $4 per GB for business grade bandwidth, this is my rant. To make it worse, I'm paying for a CIR of 2mb & a PIR of 10mb, however on average I'm doing .7mb constantly with small bursts to maximum of 2.5mb (very rarely). The price of ~$4 per GB is if I was to use the 2mb circuit 24/7 * 31 days and the fact that I can't actually get speeds of my CIR most of the time is my issue. People have mentioned moving DC's or bandwidth providers, however who on the shore can provide cheap layer2 to sky tower; plus how do I get out of a 2year contract I signed about 2 months prior to the issues? I've been with orcon since ~2002 for colo services, never really had issues that couldn't be fixed by Craig or one of the techs when things were on a more personal basis, however now that you're not allowed to speak to 2nd level support let alone 3rd level, things just never get fixed. <beer> Thanks B
