Michael, Your post implies that you're on a Residential grade DSL connection. These typically supply a single IP address and require you to use NAT to supply more than one IPv4 connected device. To gain additional real-world IP service you will need to look into business-grade services. Most ISPs (including Xtra) offer these services but as you may have noticed, they are often more expensive (as befits their more customised nature, and the higher service levels associated with most business links). NZNOG is not really the right place to ask; the NZNOG target audience would generally know the answers to your questions - and for this reason the questions would not be _asked_ here. Talk to your ISP (or other potential ISPs) about the solutions they offer. Most outfits have sales teams whos job it is to educate customers on their options based on their user requirements. The minute you step outside of the basic residential-grade consumer requirements for broadband connectivity, be prepared to pay more for your service (and for more complicated engineering requirements than your typical mass-market helpdesk can generally offer over the phone). Advice please on new ISP.
I am currently with Xtra on a home business package. I use a single static IP. I am told they cannot provide a second static IP unless I sign up for a second telecom account which includes a separate phone line and broadband account!
