Having now looked more closely at a number of the messages in the queue, it would appear that they would probably all be classified as spam. So it would seem that the filters on mta.xtra.co.nz are rejecting messages with a 421 rather than a 5xx error, hence our growing queues. Is this a change in policy ? Reject with a temporary failure something which is never going to be delivered is simply deferring load as the mail will be represented until our servers giveup (currently a number of days).
